If a purchase or payment is pending on your credit card, it is usually due to be applied to your credit card account, but hasn't been fully processed by the retailer.

If a transaction is pending, we are not able to raise a dispute with the retailer on your behalf. As soon as the transaction clears into your credit card account, you can raise a dispute claim.

Business such as hotels, car hire and petrol stations can hold an amount on your card while you use their services. This can also be done as a security check to ensure your card is genuine. This will show as a pending transaction.

The ‘amount you can use’ and the 'amount you owe' include any pending transactions. This can help ensure you don't go over your agreed credit limit.

If the retailer does not fully process the purchase or payment, the amount will be released to your credit card account. This usually takes around 7 days, although it can take up to 28 days in some rare cases. Getting in touch with the retailer is usually the quickest way to resolve any issues.

If the transaction has cleared into your credit card account and you are unable to contact the retailer, or unhappy with the outcome, please let us know by completing our online form.
